Rice sent to India by Bush

Secretary of State Condoleezza RiceUS President George W. Bush has sent the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, to New Delhi to support India after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

She will reach New Delhi on Wednesday after cutting short the meeting of Foreign Ministers of NATO in Brussels.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino stated, "Secretary Rice's visit to India is a further demonstration of the United States commitment to stand in solidarity with the people of India as we all work together to hold these extremists accountable."

The decision has come after George Bush assured the leaders of India that US shall give every support to the investigations.

Brian McCormack, special assistant to the President, told reporters at the Andrews Air Force base, "We thought it was important to take this moment to travel to Delhi to express the condolences of the U. S. people, directly to the government of India and its people and to hold face-to-face meetings."

He further added, "It is very sad that India has experienced this level of terrorism. There will be discussions about how to move forward."

McCormack further said that Rice had briefed President-elect, Barack Obama on Sunday about her plans and this was her third conversation with Obama since the attacks on Mumbai.

Rice will meet British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in London on Monday and there after she will attend a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday, before leaving for India.
