Samsung unveils its new range of products
On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled updates to its HDTV line, including a deep push into 3D. It also came up with updates to its Blu-ray players, a multi-device application store, its own e-reader, a see-through MP3 player, camera updates, and a willingness to go green.
A line of 3D televisions was introduced by Samsung in many sizes and in different variants such as LED, LCD and even plasma. One LED display was a super-slim, 0.3-inch deep model, which was described as thin as a pencil by Samsung's David Steele, vice president of Marketing for its digital media business. Apart from this, Samsung also came out with its maiden 3D Blu-ray player.
It is but obvious that all this won't be much appealing without HD 3D content to play on it.
Astonishingly, Samsung also introduced its first two 3D content partners: Technicolor and DreamWorks Pictures, with the help of whom, the electronics giant launched the very first 3D Blu-ray disc dubbed Monsters versus Aliens. The event also had a speech by DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, in which he emphasized his company's commitment to 3D.
Samsung is also keen at trying is hand in the e-book arena, with its own eReaders, the E6 and E101. Samsung, which did not add touchscreen on these models, did add handwriting functionality, similar to what's found on the Entourage eDGe. Google will be Samsung's content partner.
The event was made more exciting when Samsung gladly announced its presence at CES 2010 to be "carbon neutral".
Davis Steele said, "This doesn't mean that the company has no carbon footprint at the show. The company achieved this status through carbon offset programs provided by Carbonfund. org."
There was no announcement regarding the price and availability for most of Samsung's newest products.
