Sarabjit Singh’s family celebrates indefinite postponement of his hanging

Sarabjit SinghBhikhiwind, May 3, : As news of the indefinite postponement of Sarabjit’s Singh's death sentence reached his hometown, Bhikhiwind, his family members turned emotional.

Relatives and friends of Sarabjit assembled at his home to congratulate his family. Some burst firecrackers in happiness, while others distributed sweets and shared the happy moment with the family.

The Pakistan Government had late on Friday announced an indefinite postponement of Sarabjit Singh's execution. The announcement came two days after his family had returned from Pakistan after meeting him at Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail.

While expressing her gratitude to the Governments of India and Pakistan, Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit Singh's sister, said that the prayers of millions of Indians to save Sarabjit have been answered.

"Now, I hope that I can see my brother at home very soon," she added.

Sarabjit's daughters, Swapandeep and Poonam, were busy talking to their friends and receiving numerous phone calls from well wishers of family from across the nation and Pakistan.

Swapandeep urged well-wishers to keep up the pressure on the Indian and Pakistani Governments until her father returned home.

Sukhpreet Kaur, Sarabjit's wife, said: "We came to know from the media about the Pakistan Government's decision. It is only because of the Almighty, who has blessed us.”

It would be a dream come true if her husband returned to be with his family after an absence of 18 years, she added. (ANI)
