Senator Durbin accuses three Indian IT giants of abusing H-1B visas

Senator Durbin accuses three Indian IT giants of abusing H-1B visasA US Senator, Richard Durbin has accused leading three Indian information technology firms, which also maintain a presence in the US market, of abusing the H-1B visa system.

In an on-going Congressional debate on the comprehensive immigration reform, Durbin accused TCS, Infosys and Wipro of abusing the current system for their employees. He was speaking during the Congressional hearing on immigration reform by Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday. He also branded the three IT giants as outsourcing firms.

"These outsourcing firms like Infosys, Wipro, Tata and others - Americans would be shocked to know that the H-1B visas are not going to Microsoft; they're going to these firms, largely in India, who are finding workers, engineers, who will work at low wages in the US for three years and pay a fee to Infosys or these companies," Durbin alleged.

He said these activities leads to the abuse of the system by the companies and claimed that most of the H-1B visas are not giving to companies like Microsoft but overseas firms like the three Indian firms. Brad Smith, general counsel and executive vice president, legal and corporate affairs, Microsoft and two other Indian Americans testified against the Indian firms.
