Several shot, one killed in political violence in South Africa

Several shot, one killed in political violence in South Africa Johannesburg - Several supporters of the South Africa's ruling ANC were shot and one person died in apparently politically motivated violence five days after the country's peaceful parliamentary elections. In addition to the fatality, seven persons were reported in serious condition in the province of KwaZulu-Natal after being ambushed near the city of Pietermaritzburg.

The province has been the site of unrest since the 1990s between the Zulu party Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the African National Congress. In the latest elections the ANC for the first time established itself as the majority party in the province.
