Single donor can come in aid for 60 people

Single donor can come in aid for 60 peopleOne donor is worthy of contributing to at least 60 people with his organs.

Organs such as Kidneys, corneas, liver, blood, heart, heart valves, skin, bone marrow, lungs and pancreas can be donated to benefit 20 to 60 people

This, when compared to the astronomically depressing results, leads to state that only six cadaver donations happened in the city this year. This when compared to last year posed a far better outcome.

According to Dr Sujata Patwardhan, head Zonal Transplant Co-ordination Committee (ZTCC-Mumbai) who blames -Awareness to be the biggest problem when it comes to cadaver donation.

The nephrologists believe there is a disparity between demand and supply. The present need for cadavers is close to two lakhs while the actual happenings are close to 3,500, as confirmed by Dr Umesh Khanna, urologist, and chairman, Mumbai Kidney Foundation (MKF).

However, the only thing that can sort out this current mishap is the awareness. If the condition of brain death and awareness about organ donation is made known in public, it will surely result in an increase in cadaver donations.
