Philippine leader says offensives against separatists to help peace Manila - Six people drowned and four were missing and feared dead in floods in the northern Philippines, the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) said Monday.

More than 230,000 people have been displaced by the floods in 20 towns and two cities in the northern provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Kalinga.

The OCD said six people were confirmed killed in the floods, including two boys aged 1 and 13. The four missing were also swept by flashfloods.

Several roads and bridges in the affected provinces were impassable due to high floodwaters and landslides in some areas.

Relief goods were being airlifted to towns isolated by the floods.

The OCD said agricultural products and infrastructure worth more than 200 million pesos (4 million dollars) were damaged by the floods, including 31 residential houses.

According to the weather bureau, the tail-end of a cold front affecting the northern Philippines caused the continuous heavy monsoon rains since last week. (dpa)
