Spain king, queen on holiday in Majorca

Spain king, queen on holiday in MajorcaPalma de Majorca  - The latest terrorist attack in Majorca did not deter King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia from their vacation on the Spanish island.

The royal couple traditionally spends its holiday on the Balearic Islands, and arrived Saturday at Son Sant Joan airport in Palma de Majorca.

Majorca is completely safe, the king declared after his arrival. "We must fight against ETA until it is defeated."

The attack occurred about seven kilometres from Marivent Palace, where the royals traditionally spend their summer holidays. ETA made unsuccessful plans to kill the king on Majorca in 1995.

Meanwhile, police in Majorca were Saturday continuing the hunt for Basque separatists suspected of killing two police officers in a bombing earlier in the week.

Carlos Saenz de Tejada, 28, and Diego Salva Lezaun, 27, were killed when their car exploded in the tourist resort of Palmanova in the west of the island.

More than 1,600 police were carrying out checks, concentrating on ports and the airport, in their search for two suspects - a man and a woman - believed still to be on Majorca. (dpa)
