Spore named top PC-Game at games conventionLeipzig, Germany - Spore, a long awaited computer game slated for September release, was named "Best PC Game" at the recent Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, by a jury of experts.

As in 2007, "Best of GC" awards were handed out in a variety of additional categories. The action/adventure Mirror's Edge and its heroine Faith - like Spore an Electronic Arts product - was named best title for the Xbox 360. In the Playstation3 category, it was Sony Computer Entertainment's Little Big Planet coming away with the win. The title provides players with tremendous freedom in designing a virtual world.

Best PSP Game for the Playstation Portable mini-console went to Resistance: Retribution, also from Sony. The game invites players to liberate Europe from extra-terrestrials. Winner in the category for Nintendo's small DS unit is Sega's Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. The role-playing game builds on the successful series with the seemingly unstoppable hedgehog Sonic.

Electronic Arts received a third award in the Wii category for Skate It, which uses the controls on the Wii Fit balance board. The prize for best cell phone game went to the newest version of the soccer classic Pro Evolution Soccer from Konami. GOA earned the home the Best Online Game nod with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. (dpa)
