Metabolic syndrome is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person. The factors include excess body fat in the midsection, hypertension, high levels of blood sugar and irregular blood lipids.

Washington, April 23 : A scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has analyzed that if it were not for the Holocaust, the number of Jews in the world would likely today be at least 26 million, and perhaps even as much as 32 million.
The analysis has been done by Professor Sergio DellaPergola, a world-renowned figure in Jewish demography.
"The Holocaust struck a deep blow to the demographic, cultural and social fabric of the Jewish people in many ways and with long-range consequences," said DellaPergola.
In 1939 there were 16 and a half million Jews in the world, and in 1945, the number was estimated at 11 million.

Researchers from the United States and Canada found the fossilized skeleton of a newly discovered carnivorous animal, Puijila darwini.
The animal is described as having a long tail, and fore-limbs comparatively proportionate to modern carnivorous land animals as opposed to pinnipeds. It is the first mammalian carnivore found at the site.
