Carrie PrejeanWashington, April 22 : Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean, who answered she was against the legalisation of gay marriage in California, may have grounds to file a lawsuit against the pageant for discrimination, says a legal analyst.

Miss California, during the recent Miss USA telecast, had picked gay judge Perez Hilton''s question whether every state should make same-sex marriages legal.

Prejean, who lost out to Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton, spoke against the possibility and it was suggested that it was her negative answer that may have stabbed her chances of winning.

lip-reading computerWashington, Apr 22 : In a breakthrough study, researchers from University of East Anglia (UEA) have developed a novel computer, which can distinguish between different languages.

The researchers hope that the discovery could have practical uses for deaf people, for law enforcement agencies, and in noisy environments.

Lead researchers Stephen Cox and Jake Newman of UEA''s School of Computing Sciences developed the novel system by statistical modelling of the lip motions made by a group of 23 bilingual and trilingual speakers.

Eating fatty fish once a week can cut men''s heart failure risk

However, the effect of fatty fish and marine omega-3 fatty acids can be seen only in men.

The study provided no evidence that taking food supplements containing marine omega-3 fatty acids made any difference. The men in this study, which is published in Europe''s leading cardiology journal, the European Heart Journal, obtained most of their marine omega-3 fatty acids from the food they ate.

According to authors Keith Wilcox (City University of New York), Beth Vallen (Loyola College), Lauren Block (City University of New York), and Gavan J. Fitzsimons (Duke University), consumers may feel they have fulfilled a healthy eating goal even if they choose an unhealthy food, and the presence of a healthy option among food choices may draw their attention to the least-healthy choice available.

Too much or too little sleep ups diabetes risk

Diabetes Washington, Apr 22 : People who sleep too much or not enough are at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance, say researchers at Université Laval''s Faculty of Medicine.

The risk is 2½ times higher for people who sleep less than 7 hours or more than 8 hours a night, according to the study published in journal Sleep Medicine.

To reach the conclusion, researchers analysed the life habits of 276 subjects over a 6-year period.

The hunky star has auctioned off a chance for one lucky bidder to walk the red carpet on his arm for the premiere of one of his two upcoming films, “X Men Origins: Wolverine” or “The Proposal.”

Reynolds is “dating other people” to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, reports The New York Daily News.

In November of 2008 he raised over 100,000 dollars for the Foundation by completing the ING New York City Marathon.
