Chokers, who

Have you recovered from your injury fully or you have decided to play on because of the significance of the series against Australia?

My hand is fully recovered. The medical team is managing my elbow injury until there is a gap in our schedule to allow for surgery.

But how come there is such a transformation in your team - where have all those chokers gone? You guys are showing an indomitable fighting spirit, you yourself have batted with a broken hand.

There is no history of chokers with this team as evidenced by our win in the famous 438 game (South Africa chased that total against Australia at Wanderers in March 2006). You have to get into a winning position to choke and, when we have got on top, we have generally gone on to win.

I'm clicking my way to SA, what about you?

I've often dreamt of watching a football World Cup final inside a heaving stadium. The dream is a little more elaborate actually — I am sitting just behind the dugout, within hi-fiving distance of the players. It's a Brazil versus Argentina final. As the teams walk out on to the pitch, Ronaldinho turns around to wave at me. I wave back, furiously, with both hands. Then begins the most spectacular game of football the world has ever witnessed. There's a flurry of goals and Brazil wins. At the final whistle, I do my own 'Dairy Milk girl dance' and run on to the pitch. There's a swirl of yellow, green and a lot of bald heads as I do the lap of honour. Oh, I even speak Portuguese in the dream.

Watch out for Set Alight

Set Alight should prevail when the first Classic race of Mumbai season unfolds at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Sunday.

Though the season did miss out on some racing days, this Classic has all the best in store. Five of the top four-year-old fillies are among the 10 that will line up for the Gitanjali Indian 1000 Guineas. Icebreaker, the S Padmanabhan-trained filly should be other one to watch out for.

SHODDY MUMBAI

It took only one moment of indecision by Mumbai FC goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey to allow a rusty Air India to snatch a point and keep themselves floating above the relegation zone after a 17th round I-League encounter at Cooperage on Saturday.

Mumbai FC were cruising 1-0 until the 63rd minute when Chaubey failed to commit himself to Michael Tayo's ball from long range. The cross into the Mumbai FC box caught him in double minds and Emanuelle Ovieghara's soft header put the ball past Chaubey to restore parity for the airmen.

This was Ovieghara's first goal of the season. But coach Bimal Ghosh will consider himself lucky to gain a point from this match after his boys failed to have even one good look at the rival goal.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

With less than 24 hours to board the flight to Australia, the Indian women's cricket team appeared upbeat about locking horns with the best in the ICC Women's World Cup. Skipper Jhulan Goswami was happy with the preparations and is keen to go the distance beginning their campaign on March 7 against Pakistan at Bradman Oval in Bowral .

Putting last year's 0-5 whipping at the hands of world champions Australia behind them, the captain wants to take one step at a time. "Overall we didn't play good cricket then but we have since worked hard on building the unit and hopefully we will do well this time," Goswami said on the eve of team's departure.

Modi faces acid test

It could be the moment of truth for Lalit Modi. The high profile chairman of the Indian Premier League is locked in an acrimonious battle for the reins of the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Sanjay Dixit, a senior IAS officer in the Rajasthan government is providing Modi the kind of resistance that even Jagmohan Dalmiya could not pose to his authority.

A win or defeat may not immediately affect Modi's twin positions — the vice-presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the chairmanship of IPL — but an adverse result would be an embarrassment for the jet-setting administrator of Indian cricket.
