Hamburg - The German Bundesliga is an example of how to run a professional football league, according to a London sports marketing expert.
"In economic terms and considering income and costs, the Bundesliga is the most profitable league in Europe," Emmanuel Hembert said in an interview published Saturday in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
The 39-year-old pointed to the league's modern stadiums, its booming corporate hospitality sector and the fact that the Bundesliga now makes as much money from sponsorship as the English Premier League.
Sapporo, Japan - Gregor Schlierenzauer was a familiar winner when he led a podium sweep on another glorious day for Austria in World Cup ski-jumping on Saturday.
Schlierenzauer won for the fourth time in a row as Austria has now won all 10 competitions held this year. His win ahead of Thomas Morgenstern and Wolfgang Loitzl was their first sweep of the season after one-two finishes in the previous three events.
The World Cup leader Schlierenzauer, 19, soared 133 and 120.5 metres as he claimed his eighth win of the season and 19th overall with 253.3 points on the 2007 world championship hill.
Melbourne - Serena Williams of the United States routed Russia's Dinara Safina 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday for the Australian Open title and a return to the top of the women's tennis rankings.
Williams, 27, stretched her Melbourne success run to four titles after earlier wins in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Her 10th Grand Slam singles title came a day after she lifted the doubles crown with her sister Venus Williams.
