High School Musical maintains top grades at US box offices

High School MusicalLos Angeles - The first cinematic sequel in the High School Musical series continued to earn top marks over the weekend at North American box offices, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year debuted as the top-grossing film last weekend and remained number one in its second three-day weekend, earning 15 million dollars.

Mackenzie Phillips pleaded guilty of a felony narcotics charge Actress Mackenzie Phillips who was arrested at LAX in August has pleaded guilty for possession of cocaine and heroin . She has been placed under drug diversion program since her arrest.  

Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips, who was a member of a pop group the Mamas and the Papas. Mackenzie has a long history of drug abuse. This also led to her Expulsion from "One Day at a Time" in 1982.

2 ½ stars to 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno'

The latest from writer-director Kevin Smith , “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” is a raunch-heavy comedy. The story revolves around two childhood friends who decide to make a dirty movie together. What compels them to do so and how they fall in love along the way expresses the comic as well as satirical character of the movie.

Zack and Miri played Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks met in kindergarten. They share a platonic love as well as a room since high school, which is a decade ago. Their room  nearly shanty, infested by rats is a rented accommodation in Pittsburgh.  Both work at a franchise coffee shop. Both Zack and Miri are presented to be underachievers.

Italian film 'Mid-August Lunch' wins Satyajit Ray award

An Italian film 'Mid-August Lunch' has won the 13th Annual Satyajit Ray Award at London film Festival.

The award is presented by Satyajit Ray foundation.

Previous winners of the Satyajit Ray Award include "California Dreamin" (Endless), "The Lives of Others", "Pavee Lakeen", "The Woodsman", "Someone like Hodder", "Rachida", "In The Bedroom", "Uneasy Riders", "Boys don't Cry" and "Smoke Signals".

The film tells the story of a middle aged man who looks after the elderly.

"Tulpan" won the Sutherland trophy given to a director for most original and imaginative feature film.

Alanis Morissette says she was raped and abused in her teens

Alanis MorissetteLondon, Nov 1: Canadian singer Alanis Morissette has revealed in her autobiography that she was raped and abused when she was a teenager.

The singer-songwriter has written an autobiography where she has spilled the beans on her traumatic past.

“I’m writing a book that will tell my life story. It details some of the things I have experienced and the abuse I’ve suffered,” The Mirror quoted her, as saying.

She added: “I was the victim of statutory rape and this book will help me get rid of the feelings of shame.”
