Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 61st death anniversaryNew Delhi, Jan 30 : India paid homage to ''Father of Nation'' Mahatma Gandhi on his 61st death anniversary, which is also observed as Martyr''s Day.

The main ceremony took place at Rajghat, Gandhi''s memorial.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will inaugurate a ''Leprosy Seal Campaign'' and an ''Anti-Leprosy Fortnight''. Several other welfare programmes will also be launched in rememberance of Gandhi.

India urges Pakistan to honour its own deadline for Mumbai attack probeNew Delhi, Jan 30 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has urged Pakistan to honour its own deadline to make public the report of a preliminary investigation prepared on the basis of information provided by New Delhi regarding Mumbai attacks last November.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mukherjee said India had not given any deadline, but it is expected of Pakistan to honour its own deadline.

India to sign IAEA inspection agreement on Monday - diplomat Vienna/New Delhi  - India is set to sign its nuclear inspection agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday, bringing the country a step closer to enlarging its nuclear power sector, a diplomat said Thursday in Vienna.

Nuclear exporting countries decided last September to supply India, even though the country has not signed the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty, on the condition that its civilian nuclear facilities come under IAEA controls.

Seven suitors approach fraud hit Satyam Computers Ltd.

Satyam Computers Ltd.New Delhi, Jan. 29 : Satyam Computers board member Tarun Das on Thursday revealed that the fraud hit Satyam Computers Ltd. has been approached by about seven possible suitors, including private equity players.

"So far we are aware of four (companies that have approached Satyam Computer). But we have heard that another two or three firms are also interested," said Tarun Das, who is also the chief mentor of industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Muthalik sent to judicial custody in pub attack case of Mangalore

Pramod MuthalikMangalore/New Delhi, Jan. 29  A local court in Mangalore on Thursday sent the Sri Ram Sena's chief Pramod Muthalik to one-day judicial custody while reserving its decision till Friday over his bail plea in the pub attack case that occurred on January 24.

Muthalik was brought to Mangalore on Thursday afternoon. Though he was arrested in Davanagere on Wednesday but soon after a court granted him bail in another case.

Meanwhile, a team of Maharashtra ATS headed by a senior officer was scheduled to leave for the Mangalore later on Thursday to question him in connection with the Malegaon blast case.

BJP to field ace shooter Jaspal Rana from Tehri

Jaspal RanaNew Delhi, Jan. 29 : Bharatiya Janata Party's Central Election Committee on Thursday decided to contest youth icon Jaspal Rana from Uttarakhand's Tehri constituency in the forthcoming General Elections.

BJP declared ace shooter and Asian Games gold medallist Rana's name for the Lok Sabha polls in the list of 23 candidates announced here on Thursday. He will be one of the four candidates declared from Uttarakhand.

Rana's sister happens to be BJP President Rajnath Singh's daughter-in-law.
