New Delhi, Dec 5 : Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan here today.

Medvedev was welcomed by his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Medvedev, who arrived here on a three-day visit on Thursday, is to hold wide-ranging talks with Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

New Delhi, Dec 5 : Operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport returned to normalcy early on Friday after gunshots were heard there.

There were reports that two sharp sounds had sparked off a security scare at the airport at around 1:00 a. m.. However, a police check yielded nothing.

According to a visitor, he heard two sounds and was asked by the police to get inside the airport building.

Ranchi/New Delhi, Dec 5 : Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren has said that the state government would consider enhancing the security level of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni is reportedly unimpressed with the security he has been given. After receiving death threats from Maoists, the Jharkhand Government had provided him additional security cover.

"When we will receive a report for enhancing Dhoni''s security, then we will provide him with more security," said Soren.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived in India on Thursday on a three day visit.

The visit is aimed at strengthening ties in defence and nuclear energy.

Medvedev was due to have dinner with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh before holding a full day of high level meetings on Friday.

During his visit, Medvedev will have talks with Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan  Singh.

He is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil and Vice President Hamid Ansari.

Closer bilateral interaction in combating international and cross-border terrorism is expected to top the agenda of their talks.

Later, he is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition L K Advani.

Medvedev arrived here on Thursday on a three-day visit aimed at bolstering ties in defence and nuclear energy. He is scheduled to leave on Saturday morning.

New Dehli  - Security was tight at major Indian airports Friday after a security scare at New Dehli's international airport, where witnesses erroneously reported a night-time shootout.

According to local media, several sharp sounds caused reports of shots being fired, but a police search found no evidence of an attack. While normal operations resumed, the already tight security measures at Indira-Ghandi International Airports were tightened further.

India's main airports at New Dehli, Bangalore and Chennai were put on high terror alert Thursday following warnings from intelligence agencies, the Civil Aviation Ministry said.
