Bollywood legend sleeps with gun under pillow after attacks

New Delhi - India's entertainment capital of Mumbai is in a state of shock due to the terrorist attacks across the city, with reports of at least one Bollywood superstar sleeping with a gun under his pillow.

Mumbai is home to the Hindi film industry, popularly known as Bollywood.

Iconic star Amitabh Bachchan, who has played the role of superhero in several Hindi movies, described it as a "terrible situation" that disturbed him.

"As the events of the terrorist attack unfolded in front of me, I did something for the first time and one that I had hoped never ever to be in a situation to do," Bachchan an icon of the Hindi cinema wrote on his blog.

Centre declares seven-day mourning for former PM V.P. Singh

New Delhi, Nov 28 :The Central Government has announced a seven-day state mourning from Friday as a mark of respect to the former Prime Minister V. P. Singh.

The state funeral will take place at Sangam in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Singh died at the Apollo Hospital here on Thursday after a long illness. He was 77 and is survived by his wife of Sita Kumari and two sons Ajeya and Abhai.

On hearing of his demise, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, expressed grief and said he was deeply saddened to learn about Singh''''s death.

In his death, India has lost a great patriot and a builder of our nation whose empathy for the weaker sections would always be etched in our national consciousness, said Dr. Singh.

The Prime Minister said he is deeply saddened to learn about the demise of V. P. Singh. In his death India has lost a great patriot and a builder of our nation whose empathy for the weaker sections would always be etched in our national consciousness.

He further added that as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and later as the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister of India he consistently strove to translate his convictions into public policy.

Cabinet meets to discuss post Mumbai blast measures

India, MaharashtraNew Delhi, Nov 27 : In the wake of the terror strikes in India''s financial hub Mumbai, Central cabinet held an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi to discuss security measures and the post blast actions on Thursday.

Talking to reporters after the meeting Home Minister Shivraj Patil said that the country is strong enough to defeat the designs of the militants.
