Hamid Ansari says vocational training must for employability

Hamid AnsariNew Delhi, Mar 2 : Vice President Hamid Ansari today stressed the need for providing vocational training and skill development to increase employability.

Delivering the Zakir Husain Memorial lecture in here, Ansari highlighted the need to reorganize and reorient the country''s fragmented vocational education system.

He suggested that in addition to the traditional functioning, teaching, research and leadership training, universities need to pay attention to community service and adult education.

India, which had banned the import of Chinese toys on January 23 for six months on grounds of public health, today said imports could be allowed if the consignments were accompanied by certificates of international quality assurance.

ndia relaxes ban on imports of Chinese toys

India-china-flagNew Delhi - India on Monday relaxed a ban on the import of Chinese toys, saying goods certified by independent globally-recognized agencies would be allowed into the country.

A notification issued by India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade said shipments would be allowed if the the importer produced a certificate stating that the toys conformed to certain internationally-accepted quality standards.

India mapNew Delhi - Parliamentary elections in India will be held in five phases between April 16 and May 13, India's Election Commission announced Monday.

A new Lok Sabha, or lower House of Parliament, will be constituted before June 2, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said at a press briefing.

The term of the current United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ends in mid-May and a new government will be constituted after the election results are announced on May 16.
