NCP leader Patel downplays remarks made on Sonia, Rahul

Praful PatelNew Delhi, Feb 26 : Union Civil Aviation Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel on Thursday sought to downplay the controversy that kicked up after controversial remarks were made about Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the so-called NCP mouthpiece Rashtravadi.

Patel said that both parties would be together in the forthcoming elections.

Patel's statement came after Rashtravadi made controversial statements against both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

India says Bangladesh Rifles mutiny "an internal matter"

New Delhi/Siliguri/Agartala, Feb 26 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) soldiers was an 'internal matter' of Bangladesh.

"This is the internal matter of a sovereign country. There is a regularly elected government, they are in full command of the situation. They know how to deal with it and they are dealing with it. We wish them all success. It is not our practice to make any comment on the internal matter of any sovereign country including our friendly neighbouring country. So far our border is concerned, it is totally safe and secure," Mukherjee told reporters here on Wednesday.

Community Radio Station to start in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh

Madhya PradeshNew Delhi, Feb 26 : The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station at Sironj Tehsil, Vidisha District, Madhya Pradesh with Indian Society for Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP), a Delhi-based NGO.

A letter of intent has been issued to the organisation by a Screening Committee.

The community radio station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister meets Pranab Mukherjee

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Feb 26 : Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin, presently on an official visit to India, met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee here last evening.

This meeting is of significance after Russia signed more than 700 million dollars in deals to supply India nuclear reactors with fuel pellets.

Major nuclear powers -- including Russia, European states and the United Sates -- are scrambling to sell primary and ancillary nuclear services to India, which is trying to build new generation capacity to cope with a projected increase in demand for energy.

Gyanendra in India on a private visit

King Gyanendra, NepalNew Delhi, Feb 26 : Nepal's last king Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah arrived here on Wednesday, reportedly on a fortnight long private visit.

Accompanied by his wife, former queen Komal, and sister, former princess Shobha Shahi, the 62-year-old Gyanendra flew from Kathmandu and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as a commoner.

On his arrival, when media personnel asked about his relations with India, the former king of the Shah dynasty said that it is a private visit to attend a family wedding and also visit certain Hindu shrines in India.
