Australia receives ICC ODI Championship shield

Ricky PontingNew Delhi, Oct 26 : Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been presented with the ICC ODI Championship shield following his team’s move to the top of the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Championship table.

Australia, which slipped behind South Africa into second place just before the 1 April cut-off following the Proteas’ 3-0 victory over Bangladesh, had regained the top spot after defeating the West Indies in the opening game of the five-match ODI series in St Vincent in June.

Indo-Lanka high level talks to resolve ethnic Tamils issue today

New Delhi, Oct 26 : A high-level talks between India and Sri Lanka to resolve the issue of ethnic Tamils in the island nation will be held here today.

The meeting will take place between Basil Rajapaksa, Special Adviser of the Sri Lankan President and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

During his day-long visit, Basil is expected to meet National Security Adviser M K Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon to bring a message from President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his intentions.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, who had a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, assured him that "all necessary measures" are being taken to ensure safety and well-being of the Tamil community in the island nation.

Actress Tabu to be jury member at 39th IFFI

tabuNew Delhi, Oct 25 : Bollywood actress Tabu will be among the international jury members for the competition section at the 39th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

The festival will be held in Goa from November 22.

Director of Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) S. M. Khan, said at a press conference in Mumbai, that the competition section would comprise films from Asia, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Africa.

Peter Chan, noted film maker from Korea will head the jury.

Dasmunsi''s condition continues to be critical

Priya Ranjan DasmunsiNew Delhi, Oct 25 : Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi’s condition continues to be critical on the 13th day today.

Dr. Vineet Suri, consultant in neurology, Apollo hospital, said Dasmunshi’s condition continues to remain critical and that he is on life support system.

Sixty two-year-old Dasmunsi had suffered a severe heart attack on October 13 and admitted to the AIIMS.

Defence Minister admits to shortage of radars, submarines

A K AntonyNew Delhi, Oct 25: Defence Minister AK Antony on Saturday admitted that there were problems related to the air surveillance coverage by the Air Force due to a shortage of radars.

He also acknowledged the shortage of submarines in the Navy.

Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Antony acknowledged that the problem of radar coverage exists in the IAF because of failure on the part of the government to provide necessary equipment to the forces.
