VHP-BJP protest affects road, railway traffic across IndiaNew Delhi, Aug 21 : Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia and some Delhi BJP lawmakers were among hundreds of activists, arrested temporarily today for demanding the transfer of land to the Amarnath shrine.

Togadia led over 1,000 activists in a protest march at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi today, a senior police official said.

About 7,000 activists reportedly took part in the ''Jail Bharao'' agitation, claimed VHP leader, Vinod Bansal.

The notification allowing States to impose stock limits on certain commodities was to expire on August 31, this year.

Soren claims RJD support for chief ministership

Shibu SorenNew Delhi, Aug 21 : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo Shibu Soren on Thursday claimed that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has promised to support his bid for chief ministership.

Soren, who arrived in Delhi on Wednesday to muster support from the UPA leaders to make a comeback as Jharkhand Chief Minister met Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav today.

After the meeting, Soren told repoters that the RJD chief had not only promised his party''s backing, but also assured him of help in securing the support of Independents.

JMM General Secretary Hemlal Murmu accompanied Soren.

Centre approves Social Security Bill for the unorganized workersNew Delhi, Aug 21 : The Union Cabinet today gave its clearance for the implementation of the Unorganized Sector Workers’ Social Security Bill 2008.

The Cabinet made the necessary official amendments in the Unorganized Sector Workers’ Social Security Bill 2007, which is pending in the Rajya Sabha.

This approval will facilitate the formulation of social security schemes for workers in the unorganised sector.

Hindustan Latex to develop medial integrated devicesNew Delhi, Aug 21 : Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL), a mini ratna Company under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India, today signed a memorandum of agreement with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) for the development of its Integrated Medical Devices and Diagnostic Manufacturing Park, MediPark.

HLL also signed memorandum of agreement with NNE Pharmaplan for its Integrated Vaccine Complex, to be set up at Chengalpet near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
