Indian foreign policy based on promoting peace, prosperity in S. Asia: Manmohan Singh

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Aug. 15: The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, said on Friday that the Indian Government’s goal in South Asia is to seek a peaceful, stable and prosperous neighborhood.

Addressing the nation on the occasion of its 62nd Independence Day, Dr. Singh said: “We seek to accelerate the pace of social and economic development in our country and our region, while safeguarding our national security. Our foreign policy has been based on these principles.”

Four NSG officers awarded Police Medal

New Delhi, : Four officers of the National Security Guard (NSG) have been awarded the Police Medal for meritorious service on the occasion of 62nd Independence Day on Friday.

While Group Commander Vivek Vaid, Squadron Commander Dr. Yoginder Singh and Judge Attorney M. M. Kandpal are from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assistant Commander Dinesh Chand is from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Vaid won the Police Medal for Gallantry in 1991 due to his leadership skills, ability to lead troops in successful encounters. He was active in operations against naxalites and insurgents in Andhra Pradesh and Manipur.

Politicians celebrate 62nd Independence Day

At the Congress headquarters in Delhi, party President Sonia Gandhi unfurled the tricolour.

After addressing the nation from the ramparts of historic Red Fort to mark the Independence Day, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh attended the celebrations.

BJP members gathered at the residence of Leader of Opposition and senior party leader L. K. Advani for the celebrations.
