Total eclipse of sun to be visible in India as partial eclipse on Friday

New Delhi, July 28 : A total eclipse of the sun will occur on Friday afternoon and it will be visible as a partial eclipse throughout India.

In general, the total eclipse will be visible in the region covering northern and eastern parts of North America, Greenland, northern Europe and Asia except Japan.

Considering the earth as a whole, the eclipse begins at 1:34 IST when the shadow of the moon first touches the earth at local sunrise near a point in the North Atlantic Ocean close to New Found land in Canada. 

The eclipse ends at 6:08 IST when the moon’s shadow finally leaves the earth at local sunset near a point in the Bay of Bengal close to Andaman Nicobar Island.

Indian leaders to visit bomb-hit Ahmedabad, death toll rises to 49 New Delhi - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders were scheduled to visit the western city of Ahmedabad which had been rocked by synchronized bombings that claimed 49 lives, officials and news reports said Monday.

A total of 16 small bombs ripped through markets, residential areas, public transport and hospitals in the key city of the western Gujarat state Saturday. Eight similar blasts hit the southern Bangalore city a day earlier.

Mini version of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held in SingaporeNew Delhi, July 28 : A mini version of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will be held in Singapore on October 10-11 this year.

"PBD Singapore" is the second such convention of Indian Diaspora to be held outside India. The tagline for the event is "Towards a Dynamic Diaspora".

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session on October 10.

Centre holding high-level meet to review security after serial blasts

New Delhi, July 27 : Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilUnion Home Minister Shivraj Patil is convening a high-level here today to review security situation in the country.

A meeting of relevant government institutions and officials will begin at 11:00 am to establish the cause behind the Ahmedabad and Bangalore blasts, and to mull what steps were needed to counter this menace.

Meanwhile, a group describing itself as the “Indian Mujahideen” that had sent an e-mail claiming responsibility for the Ahmedabad serial blasts and warning of possible attacks in future, has been traced.
