With the aim to attract students towards science by the next few years, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has made announcement about the launching of ‘INSPIRE’ (Innovation In Science Pursuit for Inspired Research), a scholarship programme of the Department of Science & Technology in New Delhi.
The Parliament has cleared the bill relating to salary hike of President, Vice-President and state Governors.
Now they will get a three-fold increase in monthly salary.
The President will get Rs 1.50 lakh per month, Vice President Rs 1.25 lakh and Governors Rs 1.10 lakh. (Now its Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 36,000 respectively)
The revised hike in salary and pension will come into effect from January 1, 2009.
The President and Vice-President will also get a pension of 50 percent of their salaries.
The bill provides several other facilities for the former Presidents.
New Delhi, Dec 16: The Union Cabinet has given its approval for the setting up of a National Investigating Agency (NIA).
The Cabinet has also approved amendments in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Act.
"The Union Cabinet gave its approval to amend Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 and for setting up of a NIA. The cabinet also approved a proposal for the amendment of the CISF Act. Bills for these purposes will be introduced in the Parliament," said Onkar Kedia, spokesperson, Ministry of Home (Interior) Affairs.
After witnessing the lowest temperature of 6.7 degree Celsius on Saturday, Delhi still faces the cold waves with minimum temperature below 10 degree Celsius for the third consecutive day on Monday.
According to meteorological department sources, the nip in the air seems to have settled in India’s national capital with the minimum temperature 8.5 degree in the morning as against Sunday's 7.3 degrees.
Due to a change in wind direction, the minimum temperature was hovering around 14 degree Celsius last week.
Coimbatore/New Delhi, Dec 16 : Female students gathered here to hold a candlelight vigil as tribute to victims of the recent militant attacks on Mumbai.
They sang songs communal harmony songs and called on the government to take steps to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
"As we are youth and citizens of India, we expect a lot from the government. We expect that the government would introduce steps for better participation in our future lives also," said Vinithra, a student.
Meanwhile at another function hosted in New Delhi, yoga guru Baba Ramdev donated cheque of rupees five lakhs each to the family of the 18 security personnel who had lost their lives fighting militants in Mumbai.
A Lok Sabha committee that went into the cash-for-votes scam during UPA government's confidence vote gave Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh and Congress MP Ahmed Patel a clean chit on the pretext of the absence of solid evidence against them.
"There is no direct evidence against Amar Singh. The committee is inclined to discount the video clip of the car entering or coming out of Amar Singh's house because in the first place the video clipping does not show the face of persons (claimed to be Shri Argal and Kulasthe) seated in the rear seat," the committee said.
