Ban on LTTE extended by two yearsNew Delhi, May 15 : The Central Government has extended the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an unlawful association by two years.

The notification to this effect was issued on Wednesday, a Home Ministry release said today.

The LTTE, also known as Tamil Tigers, is a militant group that has waged a violent campaign against the Sri Lankan Government since the 1970s in order to create a separate Tamil state in the northern and eastern part of the island nation. .

The government had first banned the LTTE in 1992, ever since the ban has been extended every year.
