New Delhi, Sept 22 : Minister of State for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh and a 60 member delegation will participate in the Third Indo-Nepal Power Summit 2008 from September 23 in Kathmandu.

The two-day summit will explore possibilities of hydropower project cooperation between Nepal and India.

Nepal’s Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam will inaugurate the summit. About 300 delegates from Nepal and India will attend it.

Leading power developers from India, including GMR, L and T, Sutlaj JVN, Jindal and IL and FS are taking part in the summit.

New Delhi  - At least 174 people have died in India after flooding in several states across India over the weekend, taking the death toll in monsoon floods to cross
2,400 since June, government officials said Monday.

"Four states including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Uttaranchal have reported the deaths since Friday evening," an official from the Disaster Management division of the federal Home Ministry said requesting anonymity.

New Delhi, Sept 22 : Thirty-six Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children were arrested in New Delhi on Monday for staying without valid documents.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police East Delhi, Ajay Choudhury the immigrants were taken into custody from Kalyanpuri area in east Delhi during a random search operation.

New Delhi, Sept 22 : Union Minister of Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes today called for a review of the industrial disputes resolution system, suggesting that it should be in sync with the policy of economic liberalization and restructuring.

Inaugurating the Third India-EU Seminar on “Employment Relations and Resolution of Conflicts” here, Fernandes said that the industrial resolution system should focus on bipartite consultation, building of trust by information sharing at enterprise level and promote voluntary arbitration rather than resolution of disputes through adjudication.

New Delhi, Sept 22 : A US delegation headed by James Simpson, the Administrator of Federal Transit Administration (FTA), met the Union Minister for Urban Development, Jaipal Reddy, here today to identify opportunities for joint projects between the public transportation industries of India and the United States.

Reddy highlighted some initiatives like the Metro Rail and the Bus Rapid Transport System that have been taken up by the Urban Development Ministry.
