Satish Gujral, an invaluable pearl of the Indian art world

New Delhi, Sep. 19 : He is today a popular face in the Indian art circles and described to be a living legend. Painter, sculptor, muralist, architect and writer, Satish has been exceptional in whatever form of creative expression he has adopted.

At the age of eight, a sickness terminally impaired his hearing, but his determination and strong will led him to become a renowned artist.

Born in Jhelum (Pakistan) in 1925 in pre-partition west Punjab, Satish Gujral is one of the few people who have continued to shine as a pearl in the Indian art circles in the post-independence era. He is today an inspiration to everyone.

Anti doping rules approved for application in India

MS GillNew Delhi, Sept 19 : Newly constituted Governing Body of the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) met Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. M. S. Gill here today.

During the meeting, the Governing body approved the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) Code for its application in India. It also approved Anti Doping Rules of NADA which are expected to come into force from October 1, this year.

These Rules will lay down all procedures and rules for sample collection, testing, sanction to be imposed and rights or responsibilities of athletes and supporting personnel.

Two militants killed by police in New Delhi

Delhi PoliceNew Delhi - At least two suspected Islamic militants wanted in connection with recent bombings in Indian cities were killed by the police in national capital New Delhi on Friday, officials and news reports said.

The gunbattle erupted after the militants holed up inside a flat in the Muslim-dominated Jamia Nagar area in southern Delhi fired on a police team conducting searches in connection with the blasts.

Delhi blast suspect, associate killed in police encounterNew Delhi, Sept 19 : Atiq, a militant wanted in connection with the serial blasts in Delhi and Ahmedabad, and his associate were killed while two Delhi police personnel were injured in a fierce encounter in Jamia Nagar of south Delhi today.

Talking to reporters, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnail Singh said that acting on intelligence inputs, the police raided the house where Atiq and four other militants were holed up. In the exchange of fire that ensued, Atiq and another militant were killed.

Manmohan to meet Plan panel before leaving for US visit

The meeting comes ahead of Dr. Singh’s U. S. visit, to which he will leave on Monday to attend the meeting of the 63rd session of UN General Assembly in New York.

Shivraj Patil reviews Delhi security after blasts

Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilNew Delhi, Sept 19: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Friday reviewed the security of the national capital in the wake of Saturday's blasts.

The meeting, which was held at Patil's official residence, was attended by Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and City Police Commissioner Y S Dadhwal.

According to sources, discussion was held on Thursday's Cabinet decision to strengthen Delhi Police and security of Connaught Place.
