New Delhi, Oct 2 : Vice President M. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the Scoliosis Research Society Worldwide program on “Spinal Deformity: Current Concepts” here today.

Ansari said, “The subject of this conclave is factually and figuratively a part of our being and therefore inseparable from human condition and human health.”

Advances in medical science have helped us identify spinal deformity as a medical condition capable of being treated, said Ansari, and added, “As a result, today it is possible to straighten a crooked spine through surgical intervention.”

New Delhi, Oct 2 : Celebrating the passage of Indo-US civil nuclear deal by a thumping majority of 86-13 votes in the Senate, US Ambassador to India David Mulford said on Thursday that it is a great day for both the democracies and deal has finally become a reality.

The US Congress today approved the Indo-US civil nuclear deal when the Senate overwhelmingly voted a Bill rejecting all the killer amendments, and paving the way for the implementation of the historic initiative between the two countries.

New Delhi - Leaders from India's ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on Thursday welcomed the passage of the India-US civilian nuclear deal by the US Congress while domestic opposition leaders termed it a "surrender to US imperialism."

"It is a historic moment," Indian National Congress party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi. "The deal is in the interest of India. It is a recognition of India as a superpower and the triumph of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's vision."

In New Delhi, Muslims thronged the Jama Masjid to offer Eid prayers. Wishing the nation a ''Happy Eid'', the devotees prayed for peace and happiness.

"After keeping fast for 30 days, Allah has given us Eid as a gift. We celebrate it with lot of fervor and offer prayers in the mosques," said Mohammad Muzamil, a devotee.

At Jamia Nagar locality, Muslims offered Eid prayers at the mosque near the Batla House wearing a black band on their arms in protest against the recent arrests of two young men from the locality for suspected involvement in the serial blasts in New Delhi last month.

New Delhi, Oct 2: The Congress party on Thursday termed the approval of the Indo-US nuclear deal by the US Congress a "historic moment" for India as it has joined the elite nuclear club without signing the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) or the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "It is definitely a historic moment calling for celebration. There is no other entity ever in the history of the nuclear development in the globe which has no CTBT, no NPT, no other commitments except 123 (accord with the US) which brings us into the nuclear club."
