Former Union Minister Sukhram found guilty in disproportionate assets case

New Delhi, Feb 20: A Delhi court on Friday ordered the conviction of former Union Communication Minister Sukhram in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on February 24.

The court said, Sukhram, a cabinet colleague of Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, amassed disproportionate assets, both movable and immovable, to the tune of Rs
5.36 crore between 1991 and 1996.

The former Minister was not present in the court to hear the verdict as he was appearing in another criminal case pending in the Rohini District Court.

Archaeologists uncover ancient statutes of pharaohs in Egypt

New Delhi, Feb 20 : Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered a statue of a pharaoh and a bust of the famous woman pharaoh Hatshepsut in the southern city of Luxor.

The three-meter Amenhotep statue was "dug out with only one damage in the nose and one in the teeth," Moustafa el-Waziri, director of the archaeological mission, told the state MENA news agency.

He added that more antiques would be unearthed in the future.

Amenhotep III, or Amenophis III, was the ninth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty of ancient Egypt. He ruled the country from 1411 B. C. to 1375 B. C. after his father Thutmose IV died.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee''s health condition improving

Atal Bihari VajpayeeNew Delhi, Feb. 19 : Doctors attending to former prime minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Atal Bihari Vajpyaee, at the All India Medical Institute of Sciences (AIIMS), stated improvement in his health condition on Thursday.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital stated on Thursday that his vital parameters are normal and his condition is improving.

"He is in the ICU and his condition is stable. His chest infection has subsided," said Dr. Sampath Kumar, chief cardio-thoracic and vascular surgeon at AIIMS, told a news agency.
