Indo-US naval wargames on Western seaboardNew Delhi, Aug 21 : The 12th edition of advance Malabar exercise between the Indo-US navies will take place in the Arabian Sea from October 15-24, showcasing the increasing bonhomie between the two nations in the changing security paradigm.

The new Malabar series of wargames are being held shortly after frontline Indian Air Force fighters, Sukhoi-30MKI took part in fighter exercises at the Nellis Air Base in the Nevada Desert of the United States, taking military cooperation between the two countries to a new high.

Six killed as Maoists clash with police in India

New Delhi  - At least six people, including four policemen, were killed in a gun-battle between Maoist insurgents and police in India's eastern state of Bihar on Thursday, a news report said.

A team of the Special Auxillary Police foiled an attempt by the cadre of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) to loot a bank in the Gaya district, 130 kilometres south of state capital Patna.

Senior police official Praveen Basistha told the PTI news agency that the militants opened indiscriminate fire at the police team, leading to the shootout.

Four policemen, a bank customer and a rebel were killed in the shoot-out, he said. Five policemen injured in the encounter were moved to a local hospital for treatment.

Centre approves continuation of schemes on ground water managementNew Delhi, Aug 21 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday gave its approval for continuation of the ongoing schemes of “ground water management”.

The scheme includes “ground water survey, exploration and investigation”, “Central Ground Water Authority” and “Study of Recharge to Ground Water” as one integrated scheme on “Ground Water Management and Regulation” at an outlay of Rs. 460 crore during the 11th Plan period.
