This effective and far-reaching mass awareness campaign about renewable energy is organised every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi as 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas' on August 20 every year since 2004 all over the country.

Foreign Secretary Menon leaves for Vienna for NSG meeting

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar MenonNew Delhi, Aug 19 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will leave for Vienna today to attend the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting.

Menon will lead a high-level team at a formal meeting with the NSG troika of Germany, South Africa and Hungary. The team includes Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Shyam Saran, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)’s RB Grover and DB Venkatesh Varma from the Indian mission in Geneva.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel and Petroleum Secretary R. S. Pandey will also be present in the meeting.

The meeting would specially focus on the distribution of petroleum products in the country.

49 children died during clinical trials at top medical institute

49 children died during clinical trials at top medical institute New Delhi - As many as 49 children, many of them less than a year old, died during clinical trials of new drugs and therapies at a premier Indian medical institute over the past two and a half years, news reports said Monday.

"A total of 49 deaths corresponding to 1.18 per cent mortality among the enrolled patients were recorded during the studies," the Delhi-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said in response to a query filed under India's Right to Information Act, PTI news agency reported.

Fully revamped post offices in rural areas

New Delhi, Aug 18: Department of Posts has launched a series of fully upgraded and completely new look post offices in the services of the rural people called “Project Arrow”.

The launch aims to re-vitalize the post office network and enable it to play a larger role in socio-economic transformation of the country. These new age post offices are meant to serve as a window to the world for the common man, “Aam Aadmi”, by focusing on their needs.

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Thiru A. Raja inaugurated Project Arrow in post offices at Perambalur and Geetha Mahal, Kallankurichi Road, Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu.

Flooded Yamuna inundates low-lying areas in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 18 : The flooded Yamuna River has inundated low-lying areas in New Delhi.

The Yamuna River flowed above danger mark after a gap of five years, touching 205.55 meters.

This is about 1.5 meters above the red mark. The water level in the Yamuna is rising consistently as Haryana is releasing 25,000 cusecs of water everyday.

The river waters have inundated fields along the river bed and also a village in low lying area of Delhi

Many houses have been submerged forcing people to take shelter on the roofs tops of their houses. Many s moved their belongings using make shift boats to safer and drier areas.
