Gaps in the network will be bridged: Lalu YadavNew Delhi, Feb 13 : Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has said the spheres in which the Indian Railways lacked would be rectified.

Yadav, who is all set to present the interim Railway Budget in Parliament today, said: "We will give preference to those areas in which our Railways is lagging behind. In fact, there are around 11,000 trains in operation ferrying around one crore of persons (daily) and everything is going on efficiently."

Kasab’s police custody ends today

Kasab’s police custody ends todayNew Delhi, Feb 13 : The police custody of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/ 11 terror strikes, ends today.

Kasab had been remanded to police custody till today for his involvement in the shootout at the Cama and the Albless Hospital in South Mumbai.

He has been in police custody since his arrest on the night of November 26 and has been booked in 12 cases by the city police.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Government registered a case against Kasab.

National Mineral Awards 2007 to be given to 17 geoscientists today

New Delhi, Feb 13 : Seventeen eminent geoscientists and mining technologists have been selected for the National Mineral Awards 2007.

The awards will be conferred them by Sis Ram Ola, the Union Minister of Mines today.

Nominations for the awards are invited every year. The shortlisting of candidates is done by a multi-layered selection procedure.

The final selection of the awardees is done by an Award Making Authority, chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Mines.

The National Mineral Award scheme of Ministry of Mines aims at promoting all around excellence in geo-science in the country.

This scheme was instituted by the Ministry of Mines in 1966 and the awards are given annually.

Models throng auditions of Delhi Fashion Week-2009New Delhi, Feb 12, : Hundreds of models thronged the auditions of upcoming fashion extravaganza Delhi Fashion Week-2009 on Thursday.

The Delhi Fashion Week-2009 will take place from February 19 to February 24 and will be organised by Fashion Foundation of India (FFI).

This all India model hunt was spearheaded by an eminent jury comprising of designers Rohit Bal, Malini Ramani, Atsu Sekhose and Alpana Mittal, adman Prahlad Kakkar, leading models Fleur Xavier and Neha Kapoor and fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal.

Nithari Killings: Pandher, Koli found guilty by CBI court

Nithari KillingNew Delhi, Feb 12, : A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, which was hearing the Nithari killing case, on Thursday convicted the main accused Mohinder Singh Pandher and his domestic help Surinder Koli.

Judge Rema Jain said she will pronounce the quantum of sentence on Friday.

Both Pandher and Koli are accused of killing and disposing off the bodies of 19 children and a young woman between 2005 and 2006.

The Nithari killings that came to light two years ago left people across the country flabbergasted.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau slaps fourth case on ex-CM Amarinder Singh

Amarinder SinghNew Delhi, Feb. 12 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a fourth case against former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and converting his bribe into `white money' by faking the sale of shares of his company.

Earlier cases registered against Singh were in connection with the Amritsar Improvement Trust scandal, the Ludhiana City Centre scam and a disproportionate assets case.
