Turkish PM arrives in India to enhance bilateral ties

India, TurkeyNew Delhi, Nov 21 : Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived on a five day visit to India to enhance bilateral ties, was accorded a ceremonial welcome at President House this morning.

Erdogan and his wife were received by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur.

Erdogan is accompanied by a high level delegation including three ministers as well as lawmakers and business leaders.

Chinese acrobats enthrall audience in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 21: Chinese acrobats put up a spectacular show of their traditional art form here on Thursday.

The acrobats from the Tianjin Acrobatic Troupe, made creative use of props like lamps and hats to enthrall the audiences at the show.

Twirling and twisting their bodies, the acrobats moved around with agility as they showcased their art.

The act left the audiences mesmerized which gave a standing ovation to the performers.

"Simply incredible. I think an experience we will never forget, the Chinese acrobats. I think it''s an age-old tradition, which they have nurtured," said Vasanthi, a spectator.

Dalmiya expulsion case: BCCI moves Supreme CourtNew Delhi, Nov. 21: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court''s directive to initiate criminal proceedings against six of its top officials for filing false affidavits that led to the expulsion of Jagmohan Dalmiya from the BCCI.

The High Court had found former president Sharad Pawar and five others guilty of perjury in a case relating to misappropriation of funds by ex-BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

India will survive global crisis, sustain 8-per-cent growth: Singh

New Delhi - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday asserted that India "can and will survive" the global financial crisis and sustain an 8-per-cent economic growth.

"In a globalized world, we cannot pretend that we are not affected by the economic crisis," Singh said while addressing a conference in New Delhi, adding "however, we can and will survive this crisis and emerge stronger."

Exuding confidence that India had "resources and wisdom" to deal with the crisis, Singh said all instruments of public policy - fiscal, monetary, exchange rate and public investment - will be deployed to ensure growth and entrepreneurship and tackle the adverse impact of the slowdown.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to visit India

India, TurkeyNew Delhi - India and Turkey were expected to discuss energy cooperation and consolidating trade and political ties during the five-day visit starting this week of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the South Asian country, officials said Thursday.

Erdogan, due to arrive in New Delhi late Thursday, was scheduled to hold talks Friday with his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh.

It would be the first visit by a Turkish prime minister to India in two decades.

External Affairs Ministry justifies naval action against Somali pirates

SomaliaNew Delhi, Nov 20 : External Affairs Ministry on Thursday justified naval action against Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

The Indian Navy Warship, INS Tabar, armed with supersonic BrahMos (PJ-10) anti-ship cruise missiles, sank a pirate vessel off the Somali coast after an exchange of fire with the pirates on Tuesday.

This is second successful operation of the naval ship against the pirates in Gulf of Aden, recently.
