No demand for Cabinet berths for SP: Amar Singh

Amar SinghNew Delhi, July 24 : The Samajwadi Party chose to be diplomatic about joining the UPA Government after helping it to win the confidence motion in the Parliament.

SP general secretary Amar Singh said he is not the right person to answer the question whether the party would participate in the government.

“It is not possible to answer this question now but we are not interested in joining the government,” he added.

Inflation dips a bit, touches 11.89 per centNew Delhi, July 24 : Inflation rate dipped to 11.89-per cent for the week ended July 12. The inflation has softened somewhat with prices of many essential items either declining or remaining static.

The figure for the week ended July 12 is quite in line with the rate of inflation for the week ended July 5, that stood at 11.91 per cent, very marginally higher than the rate of
11.89 per cent reported a fortnight ago.

Union Home Ministry reviews Assam situation

ULFANew Delhi, July 24 : The Union Home Ministry today in detail reviewed the situation in Assam.

At a high level meeting taken by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta here today, the security situation in Assam was reviewed in detail.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary and DGP of Assam, Special Secretary (IS) in Ministry of Home Affairs, senior officers of the CRPF and BSF and representatives of the Ministry of Defence.

The meeting took stock of the situation, arising out of the unilateral declaration of ceasefire by some ULFA cadres.

Centre frames guidelines to help victims of terror, communal violenceNew Delhi, July 24 : The Centre has formulated detailed guidelines for implementing the Central Scheme for Assistance to Victims of Terrorist and Communal Violence.

The guidelines have been sent to the States and Union Territories. The Union Cabinet approved the Scheme in March.

Indian Navy to buy 37 anti-submarine helicopters

Indian NavyNew Delhi, July 24 : The Indian Navy is all set to strengthen its air fleet by acquiring 26 Sea King anti-submarine and troop carrying helicopters and 11 Kamov-28 choppers.

The Defence Ministry will soon issue the request for proposal (RFP) to procure these 37 anti-submarine helicopters. The contract for choppers is worth Rs. 14, 500 million

The ministry has finalised global tenders to acquire troop carrying and anti-submarine helicopters as well as to upgrade its fleet of Sea King and Kamov-28 helicopters, a senior naval officer said.
