The latest report of Singapore's health ministry paints a grim picture of HIV cases in the country.
According to the government of Singapore, as compared to the last year, the total number of HIV cases in the country will exceed this year.
Figure out the latest government records: in the first ten months of this year, 382 persons were affected by HIV in the country, while in 2007(whole), 423 cases of this deadly disease were notified.
On Monday, the 20th annual World AIDS Day organizations looked at the disease and the progress that has been made in the fight to control if not eradicate it. Shanta Devarajan, Chief Economist for the World Bank's Africa region calling AIDS society's problem rather than only a health problem said, "We need all the resources and all the mechanisms that we have in society to fight AIDS." 
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had offered to resign in the wake of the deadly Mumbai terror attacks. Speaking to the media, he said, "In the Congress Working Committee meeting day before yesterday, I offered to resign. The party high command has not taken any decision on this so far but whatever they decide I will accept."

United Spirits Ltd (USL) has announced the merger of Tamil Nadu-based Balaji Distilleries Ltd .The board of USL approved the all-stock deal and the merger will be effective April 1, 2009. The swap ratio fixed by the company is 2:55, i. e. two shares of United Spirits for 55 shares held in Balaji Distilleries.
