Thoughts of a break now on back-burner for Jankovic

Thoughts of a break now on back-burner for Jankovic London - Easy first-round success was enough to convince volatile sixth seed Jelena Jankovic to abandon her idea of taking a tennis break, after winning her opening match at Wimbledon Tuesday.

The 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) victory over German Julia Goerges was a tonic for the Serb, who only a week ago had lamented her life and said were it not for Wimbledon she would gladly take a break from the game.

"I'm more enthusiastic, I'm more positive, as well," said the player noted for wearing her emotions on her sleeve. "You have to look on the bright side.

"There are periods where you're gonna be down and you're gonna be up. Life, it happens like this. Especially for an athlete, we have our lows and highs, especially when it comes to motivation."

The 24-year-old who ended 2008 as number one, said she has put aside any depression about her game, instead looking on the positive side.

"In this moment I'm just trying to get my energy up on the court and just get that fighting spirit from the first point. Give my maximum from the first point, not play with 20 percent or play halfway what I can.

"I'm trying to get to that mode, this is the mode that gives me results. This is the way I play great tennis I win a lot of matches." Jankovic confirmed that her attitude has changed 180 degrees in a matter of a few days.

"I'm happy to be here, I'm just trying to play my tennis on grass, which I find is very, very difficult. It gives me quite a hard time, it's nothing like on other surfaces, where I have time to prepare, where I have time to set up for my shots.

"I'm not really thinking about the break. I'm healthy, I can play good tennis. I can go out on the court and enjoy. What more I can ask for?"(dpa)
