Three dead in tram crash in Czech city

Prague MapPrague - Three people died and dozens were injured when two trams crashed late Friday in the Czech Republic's north-eastern city of Ostrava, reports said Saturday.

A four-year-old child and a 79-year-old man died in the crash, while the man's 68-year-old wife succumbed to injuries in a hospital, CTK news agency reported.

The Rail Safety Inspection spokesman Zdenek Neusar said Saturday that 49 people were injured, 15 of them seriously.

The trams collided on a one-track lane after one of the drivers failed to wait until the tram approaching from the opposite direction passed, Neusar said.
