Utah man will be given the chance to choose the mode of executionOfficials have said that, a man from Utah, on death row, will have a choice between execution by firing squad or lethal injection if his execution warrant is issued next week.

The Salt Lake Tribune has reported that among his various appeals of his death sentence conviction for murder, Ronnie Lee Gardner requested, and on Monday was granted, a choice in the manner of execution.

Documents would set forth the training and expertise of the execution team, but will not identify the team members or include other information that might jeopardize security, department of Corrections attorney, Sharel Reber, said.

The Tribune further reported that Gardner tried to escape April 2, 1985, from the Salt Lake City courthouse where he was brought for a hearing on charges in a robbery and the shooting of Melvyn John Otterstrom.
