Want to conserve environment – Start by saving food
After reading many articles on environment concern, you want to contribute something. Don’t waste food. A study, which was published in American Chemical Society’s journal Environmental Science and Technology said that by saving food, we can contribute hugely towards environmental concerns.
If all US citizens, just don’t let the food go waste, US can save the energy, which will be equal to the energy that is produced by 350 million barrels of oil per year.
Energy is required to produce food, get it processed and packaged. Energy is also required for transporting it from one place to another. If the food is wasted, all the energy, which was employed, also gets wasted. This theory was put forward by US scientists Amanda Cuellar and Micheal Webber.
It was estimated, that in 2007, in the United States, between 8 to 16% out of total energy consumption was used for food production.
In United States, for the production, preparation, packaging and the preservation of food equal to one year’s consumption, the energy produced by 1.4 billion barrels of oil is required as per the study’s estimate.
