Warranty for Dual-Motor Rivian R1T and R1S EVs restricted to four years

Warranty for Dual-Motor Rivian R1T and R1S EVs restricted to four years

American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian Automotive Incorporated has confirmed that it has reduced its basic 5-year warranty for lower priced dual motor R1T and R1S vehicles to four years. The Rivian R1T is a battery electric mid-size light duty luxury pickup truck, while the R1S is an all-electric full-size off-road SUV. Both vehicles come in various versions, and the manufacturer offers some of the most intriguing EVs in the world. The R1T as well as R1S boast striking off-road capabilities and impressive performance that can rival any other vehicle available in their respective segments in the market. Along with their remarkable high-tech features and specs, Quad-Motor Rivian vehicles come with a considerable warranty.

The Quad-Motor Rivian R1T electric pickup truck as well as the R1S electric offroad SUV come with a basic warranty that lasts for a period of five years or 60,000 miles (approx. 96,500 km), whichever comes first. This warranty for the EV puts the brand in the upper tier in respect of basic warranties. Only a few other automobile brands, including Kia, Hyundai, Genesis and Jaguar, are currently offering a basic warranty with comparable options.

The quad-motor variants of the aforementioned electric pickup truck and SUV also have an 8-year or 175,000-mile (approx. 281,600 km) warranty on battery and drivetrain. It is worth noting here that that U.S. federal government mandates warranty for a period of 8 years or at least 100,000 miles. Thus, Rivian is covering 75 per cent more mileage in terms of warranty.

Obviously, the quad-motor warranties are quite striking. However, the less expensive Dual-Motor Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles now come with more restricted warranties. Both the Dual-Motor Rivian R1T light duty pickup truck and R1S SUV come with a basic warranty lasting only four years or 50,000 miles (approx. 80400 km). The battery warranty remains the same at 8 years, but it has been reduced to 150,000 miles (approx. 241,400 km) in terms of distance covered. However, warranty on the drivetrain of these vehicles still last for a period of 8 years or 175,000 miles (approx. 281,600 km).

Nonetheless, the Rivian vehicles’ basic warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles (approx. 80400 km) is quite common when we compare it with warranties available on high-end vehicles from rival brands. Electric car pioneer Tesla and several other rival brands like Polestar and BMW also offer 4-year basic warranties on their vehicles.
