Western New York Man runs for Son’s Medical Bills
Bryan Morseman runs for paying bills of his infant son's medical bills. Although he loves to run, now he is using the sport as a medium to collect money for his son's medical bills. The runner from Western New York ran three marathons last month and completed them in eight days.
Morseman's son, Leeim, has a congenital spine defect, known as spina bifida. The disorder causes several health problems and no-treatment poses the risk of forever losing the ability to walk.
"Every time I'm in a race I think of him and how my pain is nothing compared to what he has gone through. He gives me the energy shot to pick me up and carry me through to the finish", Morseman told the Democrat & Chronicle.
Morseman won the Montgomery Marathon on March 14. He won the Tobacco Road Marathon the next day and the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon on March 22. The total prize money he received from these marathons was $5,750.
Morseman has won 23 of the 42 marathons since his first 26.2-mile race in 2008. He said that he does not train himself for a specific race and takes each race as it comes.
Morseman and his wife Sarah came to know last spring that their son had a condition, known as spina bifida. A child develops the condition in the womb when formation of the baby's spinal column is not proper.
Leeimis currently doing physical therapy three times a week, but it is still not clear if he would be able to walk. A GoFundMe page has been created by the Morseman family, seeking help for medical bills.
