3 Suspected Swine Flu Cases In India

Swine FluFinally the Swine flu scare has hit India.

Three passengers were taken to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia hospital with suspected symptoms of H1N1 flu infection.

All three, two landed in from Chicago and one who came from London to India, had cough, cold, fever and upper respiratory infection.

On Friday night, the doctors at the Indira Gandhi International airport sent Paramjit Kaur and Jagjivaan Singh, residing in Fatehabad in Punjab, to RML, immediately they landed in Delhi from Chicago.

Paramjit had fever for five days whereas Jagjivaan was also suffering from fever, sore throat and upper respiratory diseases for the last 12 days.

Both of them had visited affected American states of Texas and Chicago.

However, the third suspect Ashwini from London hadn't visited affected states but was found to have flu symptoms.

The sources from union health ministry said that five cases were brought to RML since Friday afternoon for final testing on whether suspected passengers fit WHO's definition of a suspect case.

Moreover, there are reports that the Indian government will purchase 10 million tablets of Tamiflu and 10 million N-95 masks in order to face the threat from influenza-A/H1N1.

Mr. Vineet Chawdhry, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, stated that 10 million tablets are likely to treat one million infected people.
