3G mobile data traffic rises 196% in IndiaAccording to a new report, the total mobile data traffic has been rising rapidly in the Indian market and the mobile data traffic generated by 3G services have recorded a growth of 196 per cent between December 2011 and December 2012 and 2G mobile data traffic rose 66 per cent during the same period.

According to Nokia Siemens Networks' MBit Index study, 3G users consume about 434MB per month, which is about 300 per cent more than 115MB per month consumed by 2G users per person. The MBit Index study is based on Nokia Siemens' internal analysis using the aggregated data from multiple sources in the country.

Sandeep Girotra, Nokia's head of India region, said in the statement that, "The fact that data consumption by 3G users has tripled in one year clearly shows the rapid and steady increase in mobile data consumption in India. This translates into the need for high-quality mobile broadband services with improved speed and service quality to satisfy mobile broadband users."

Experts said that the fall in 3G tariff by operators in 2012 resulted in an increase in 3G data consumption across the country with major telecom circles recording higher growths.
