National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) had been allocated funds to provide healthcare facilities in Himachal Pradesh but 75% of the funds remain unutilized.

The Comptroller Auditor General of India (CAG) said, that this health mission funds were not utilized because of the non availability of 24 hour healthcare facilities.

CAG has submitted a report stating the position of NRHM, Central government had granted Rs. 119.85 crore to NRHM in 2005-2009 under which seventy five percent remain unspent.

CAG further added that, this under utilization of funds occur because 24 hour healthcare facilities are not provided to rural section of the community and to make it further worse healthcare service providers are facing shortage of manpower.

This report visualizes the whole status and come to a conclusion that central government's prestigious task remain truncated due to shortage of doctors and paramedical staff and badly equipped health organizations. In order to make this health mission a success government need to ensure the availability of general surgeons, obstetricians, gynaecologists, anaesthetists and paramedical staff, including nurses in all the community health centres and primary health centers.

Climbing the ladder of success, government has taken few steps to beat the deficiency of doctors by increasing the number of seats in two medical colleges in Shimla and Tanda in Kangra district from this session.

In addition to this process, government has also planned to set up medical colleges in Mandi, Hamirpur, Sirmaur and Una districts with private sector participation.
