Aamir’s 'Peepli Live' Winnowed Out Of Oscar Race!Aamir Khan's mega-hit flick 'Peepli Live', India's official entry to the Oscars under the Best Foreign Language Film, failed to make it to the top nine short-listed by the Academy.

Produced by Aamir Khan, 'Peepli Live' was chosen from 27 flicks comprising 'Raajneeti' and 'Udaan' to symbolize India at the Oscars.

In the year 2001, Aamir bagged nomination for the Oscars for his film 'Lagaan'.

His superhit film 'Taare Zameen Par (2007) also returned unrewarded from the Oscars.

Directed by debutante Anusha Rizvi, 'Peepli Live' is a caustic remark on media's trivialization of agriculturists' self-annihilation and features lots of theatre actors.

The nine flicks were chosen out of 66 movies, which had originally specified under the group.

The list of nine flicks will be short-listed to the 5 contenders for January 25 Oscar nominations.

The movies, which are still in the Oscars race comprise Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Mexican movie 'Biutiful', featuring Javier Bardem; Algeria's 'Hors la Loi' (Outside the Law) directed by Rachid Bouchareb; Canada's 'Incendies' by Denis Villeneuve; Denmark's 'In a Better World by Susanne Bier; Greece's 'Dogtooth' by Yorgos Lanthimos; Japan's 'Confessions' by Tetsuya Nakashima; South Africa 'Life, above All' by Oliver Schmitz,; Spain 'Tambien la Lluvia' by Iciar Bollain and Sweden's 'Simple Simon' by Andreas Ohman.

The final nominations will be declared on Jan 25 and the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Feb 27.
