Airlines offer up to 50% discount on tickets to stimulate sales

discountIndia's civil aviation market is once again witnessing price war as many carriers have announced discounts of up to 50 per cent on tickets as they are struggling to attract passengers in the lean season.

Budget carriers GoAir, SpiceJet and IndiGo have announced discounts on tickets booked on 30-60 day advance purchase window.

SpiceJet has slashed prices of tickets for the Delhi-Mumbai route to Rs 2,830 per ticket, while tickets for Bangalore to Delhi route now cost Rs 3,444 each.

The sale will be on till January 23. The carrier also declared that the discount would be only valid on travel at least thirty days after the day of booking, and up to April 15.

Air India has announced discounts of up to 50 per cent for domestic air tickets booked between January 22 and January 24, for travel between February 21 and April 15. Tickets for the Delhi to Mumbai route cost Rs 2,830, while tickets for the Delhi-Ahmedabad and Agartala-Kolkata routes cost Rs 2,292 and Rs 1,385, respectively.

Commenting on the attractive discounts, Yatra. com President Sharat Dhall said, "Travellers are finally getting a respite from high airfares and will take advantage of these great prices to book their holidays in advance. We are already seeing over 250% rise in bookings."

The mid-February to March period is usually a lean period for airlines. Last year too, the carriers had announced heavy discounts with the purpose to boost sales.
