Alcohol Effects Brain of Women at a Speedy Rate: Study

Alcohol Effects Brain of Women at a Speedy Rate: StudyOn the basis of a study, researchers of California claimed that girls in their adolescence, who drank alcohol in excess, were open to affect the part of the brain that controlled the memory and spatial awareness. The women are claimed to be more open to negative results of drinking than men, because to the difference in the development of their brains.

In a study, researchers made a test on 95 teenagers belonging to the age group of 16 to 19, studying in various universities of the US. The researchers arranged for 27 males and 13 girls who indulged in excess alcoholism. The girls drank 3 pints of beer and 4 glasses of wine, whereas the boys were made to drink 4 bottles of beer and a bottle of wine. Same test was carried out on w31 males and 24 females, who did not drink.

Both groups were made to undergo neuropsychological tests through MRI scans, and their results were compared. The results revealed that girls, who drank heavily, were found to have various parts in their brain to be working slow, in comparison to the girls who did not drinkat all.

Susan Tapert, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California and lead study author, said “These differences in brain activity negatively affected other functions, like concentration and working memory".
