American online giant, Amazon. com may soon launch a new subscription based service for books, much like its subscription video-streaming service as part of Amazon Prime that was launched his February.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Amazon may soon launch a book service with a fixed monthly fee for access to a library of books. The company will offer book publishers a substantial fee for being part of the service with their content.
The service is not a new concept as other services like `the library', booksfree. com and bookswim already offer books. However these services are based on offline paperbacks and hardbacks. Other services lack best selling books from premium publishers.
Amazon, with its strong relationship with most premium publishers, is much better poised to attract customers to the service. The service might only be available in the US.
