April auto sales are beating the trend

Auto-SalesWhile there have been seen that unit sales have taken a dip in the month of April from the past couple of years, this year has been a trend breaker as most of the auto companies have filed huge numbers in the month of April 2010.

However, when one takes a closer look at the statistics, it is easy to find that it has happened because of the low base effect. As in the last year, with April 2009 being disturbed the slowdown blues; many auto companies filed disappointing nos. in the domestic circuit. The market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd's volumes shot up by 30% on a year-on-year basis to 93,058 vehicles.

The highest growth rate was strangely seen in Omni vans that grew by 38% while the overall domestic sales were 23% higher. In the two-wheelers while Hero Honda stayed flat due to the strike at Exide, its battery supplier, Bajaj Auto filed 84% rise filing its highest ever monthly sales of 3.13,000 units.

According to the historic trends, auto unit sales have faced a fall in April but since the auto companies were at their low last April, the unit sales have been encouraging on a y-o-y basis.
