Archer Champia Crashes Out Of Beijing
It was a heavy moment for medal prospect Mangal Singh Champia, as he was eliminated from the men’s archery individual event in the round 16 at Beijing Olympics.
Champia was the only Indian competitor in the Men’s individual archery. He started his day with good spirits as he got past Iran’s Vaezi Hojatollah in the round of 32 winning 112 to 98 to progress into the pre-quarters.
But unluckily, Champia could not win against his Russian opponent, Bari Badenov in the 16th round. Though he performed really well, but fell short and lost the game by narrow margin of just one point.
Champia, who had scored perfect tens in his last two hits, bowed out of Olympics with a heart-wrenching scoreline of 110-109.
The dejected player said that he could not adjust to the format and that really played a crucial role in deciding his luck.
He reported, “I struggled for rhythm and the format did not allow me get into the groove. In practice, we shoot six arrows one by one but here, I had to shoot one, leave the lane for the opponent to fire one before I could go and have my second go at it.”
